HISTORY:
History of Gujarat began with stone age. Gujarat was ruled by Gupta empire till 6th century. After the fall of the Gupta empire in the 6th century, Gujarat turned out to be an independent Hindu state. Matrika dynasty ruled from 6th to 8th century, having Vallabhi as their capital by defeating Gupta's. Also, Gujarat was ruled by Harsha briefly during the 7th century. The Arab rulers of Sindh captured Vallabhi in 770 thereby bringing the Maitrika dynasty to end. Than after Pratihara empire ruled Gujarat from 8th to10th century. During 10th-century Chaulukya dynasty came into power. After from 1290 to1300, Alauddin khilji, the sultan of Delhi incorporated Gujarat into Delhi Sultanate. After, Ahmad Shah 1, the son of then Gujarat's governor Zafar Khan Muzaffar ruled the state from 1411 to1442. Gujarat remained independent until 1576. In 1576 Mughal emperor Akbar conquered Gujarat and made it a province.
But later in the 18th century, Gujarat came under the control of Maratha empire. After the battle of Panipat in 1761 Peshwas started ruling the state. After second Anglo Maratha war, the British took over the power from peshwas. From1818 to 1947 Gujarat was divided into hundreds of princely states and was directly ruled by the British. after all, Gujarat was formed by splitting Bombay state in 1960, on the basis of language
